Alguns devem se lembrar que muito antes da U2 X-Radio, existiu a ZooRadio, transmitindo 24 horas por dia, sete dias por semana, com faixas recomendadas por Larry, Edge e Adam.
A banda decidiu criar uma estação de rádio do U2 para comemorar o lançamento do seu novo Best Of em 2002, e a ZooRadio foi montada pela Radio Free Virgin.
Além das favoritas dos membros da banda, havia uma seleção por amigos da banda como Brian Eno, Noel Gallagher, Flood, JJ72, Paul Oakenfold, No Doubt e Gavin Friday.
A transmissão ocorria no U2.COM e na Radio Free Virgin.
A ideia era a mesma utilizada hoje na U2 X-Radio. Se ouvia um comentário exclusivo de Adam sobre o que o levou a escolher sua própria faixa, além de Edge apresentar as faixas de 'U2 The Best Of 1990-2000' e por que a banda decidiu criar uma estação de rádio do U2.
