Na turnê iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE de 2015, o U2 começou revezando as canções "City Of Blinding Lights" e "Miracle Drug" para a abertura do encore.
Elas eram tocadas após uma introdução com uma bela mensagem em áudio pré gravada, e imagens do universo no telão. Foi utilizada também em alguns shows, antes de "Beautiful Day".
A voz da mensagem era de Stephen Hawking, que faleceu hoje aos 76 anos de idade, convidando as pessoas à se juntarem à campanha ONE.ORG: "Um planeta, uma raça humana", diz ele através de seu famoso computador que gera discursos. "Devemos nos tornar cidadãos globais e viver com tolerância e respeito. Nós não somos os mesmos, mas nós somos um."
The Edge é um grande admirador de Hawking, e em 2002 participou de uma palestra dele em Cambridge com outros 200 convidados.
Stephen Hawking em sua página do Facebook disse: "The Edge compareceu no meu 60º aniversário em Cambridge e cantou parabéns para mim! Estou muito satisfeito por ter sido capaz de cantar para ele acompanhando o U2 em sua turnê iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE".
No lançamento oficial em DVD/Blu Ray 'U2 iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Live in Paris', a mensagem de Hawking foi incluída. Ela é citada no encarte como "Stephen Hawking 'Global Citizen'".

The reason I am talking to you today is to add my voice to those who want immediate action on the key challenges that face our global community.
I hope that in 2015 people with power can show creativity, courage, and leadership. Let them rise to the challenge of the Sustainable Development Goals and act – not out of self-interest but of common interest.
I am very aware of the preciousness of time. Seize the moment. Act now.
I have spent my life traveling across the universe inside my mind. Through Theoretical Physics I have sought to answer some of the great questions. But there are other challenges, other big questions which must be answered and these will also need a new generation who are interested, engaged, and with an understanding of science.
How will we feed an ever growing population, provide clean water, generate renewable energy, prevent and cure disease, and slow down global climate change?
I hope that science and technology will provide the answers to these questions. But it will take people, human beings with knowledge and understanding to implement these solutions.
One of the great revelations of the Space Age has been the perspective it has given humanity on ourselves. When we see the earth from space, we see ourselves as a whole. We see the unity and not the divisions. It is such a simple image with a compelling message. One planet. One human race.

I have been enormously privileged through my work to be able to contribute to our understanding of the universe but it would be an empty universe indeed if it were not for the people I love and who love me. Without them the wonder of it all would be lost on me.

A razão pela qual eu estou falando com vocês hoje é para adicionar minha voz àqueles que querem ação imediata sobre os principais desafios que enfrentam a nossa comunidade global.
Espero que em 2015 as pessoas com poder possam mostrar criatividade, coragem e liderança. Deixe-os enfrentar o desafio das metas de desenvolvimento sustentável e agir - não por interesse próprio, mas de interesse comum.
Estou muito consciente da preciosidade do tempo. Aproveite o momento. Aja agora.
Passei a minha vida viajando pelo universo dentro da minha mente. Através da física teórica, procurei responder a algumas das grandes questões. Mas há outros desafios, outras grandes questões que devem ser respondidas e estas também precisarão de uma nova geração que esteja interessada, engajada e com uma compreensão da ciência.
Como vamos alimentar uma população cada vez maior, fornecer água potável, gerar energia renovável, prevenir e curar doenças, e retardar as alterações climáticas globais?
Espero que a ciência e a tecnologia forneçam as respostas a estas questões. Mas levarão pessoas, seres humanos com conhecimento e compreensão para implementar essas soluções.
