Foi gravada em Setembro de 2006 no Abbey Road Studios em Londres e produzida por Rick Rubin.

Em 7 de Novembro de 2006 , a "Los Angeles Based Radio Station" KROQ tocou pela primeira vez a canção nas rádios norte-americanas. A canção circulou em um áudio de má qualidade meses antes do lançamento, junto de outras quatro canções (intituladas "The Beach Clips"), que foram gravadas por fãs do estúdio de ensaios na casa de Bono em Èze Beach, França.

A letra de "Window In The Skies" mudou em relação à versão do Beach Clip.
A canção alcançou a posição de número um no Canadian Singles Chart.

Além do videoclipe de The Saints Are Coming, que foi a outra faixa inédita da coletânea 18 Singles, lançada em 2006; o DVD Single traz um video para a canção Tower Of Song, que o U2 gravou juntamente com Leonard Cohen, autor da canção.

A música faz parte do documentário Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, onde relatos do cantor são intercalados com versões de suas músicas interpretadas por artistas como Rufus Wainwright e Nick Cave. No fim da película o próprio Cohen interpreta, junto ao U2, a música "Tower of Song".
